Responsible luxury

The five senses are a pillar of luxury. Rather than consumer objects, the new luxury lies in a unique and sustainable experience that challenges codes and is more virtuous.

Paris is leading the way in sustainable luxury.
In hotels and luxury goods shops, the number of brands and boutiques incorporating these environmentally-friendly practices is on the rise.

From organic, bio-based products made from amazing raw materials to local produce in restaurants and grocery shops that follow the seasons, Paris is becoming a city that’s going green!

One of the biggest luxury trends in Paris is an echo of this sustainability.

It reflects the very strong current need for authenticity on the part of the new generation of consumers, who want to be committed and in return expect luxury to demonstrate this more and more through strong actions, values that deserve respect and inclusiveness.

Responsible luxury, a trend to watch

Its aim, as in many sectors, is to minimise the environmental and social impact both in the production and creation of luxury products and in everything to do with services and hospitality. In contrast to the traditional image of the luxury industry, which is often associated with excess, responsible luxury aims to integrate sustainable and ethical practices by focusing on environmental sustainability and social responsibility, which are growing concerns for customers and visitors today.

New technologies and innovation are helping to accelerate this change, and there are many initiatives by the big names in the sector.
By definition, luxury is linked to timelessness, exceptional expertise, heritage and the often ancestral history of renowned houses. By virtue of this DNA, the sector has a duty to advocate an eco-responsible and environmentally-friendly approach, to promote French craftsmanship and expertise, and to offer exemplary transparency in sourcing.

Experiences

From 3 to 7 November, the biggest names in French hospitality will meet the best English-speaking travel agents at an event combining style and expertise. Named Duco number 5, this gathering is also a sophisticated nod to the world of perfume.
