Shopping

Paris has confirmed its position as one of the world's leading luxury hubs. Fashion, beauty, restaurants, patisserie, jewellery and more are all part of the mix.

The world's luxury leaders are in Paris more than ever

The global appeal of French brands is concentrated more than ever in the world of luxury: Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermès, Cartier and Dior are the French brands that have emerged in Interbrand’s Top 100 best global brands. They rival Apple, Tesla and Nike. In beauty, L’Oréal Paris and Sephora also feature in this prestigious list.
These heritage brands, some of the most iconic in the world, are enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Not only are they as sought-after as ever, but you only have to look at the endless queues outside these luxury stores in Paris. This shopping experience in Paris obviously has a different flavour. Not only because the concept of luxury is embedded in the city, but above all because Paris is more than ever the capital of fashion and style. Always at the forefront, its avant-garde designers are discovered through fashion-weeks, the latest fashion trends, from haute couture to street-style, Paris is the place to be for the luxury and fashion industry.

Second hand

The second-hand market has grown to such an extent in recent years that brands have decided to stop leaving it to third-party platforms: ‘second-hand’ corners are now being directly reappropriated by brands and are finding their place in luxury boutiques, such as Cartier on rue du Faubourg St Honoré.
Accessories, leather goods, shoes, watches and jewellery (which account for 80% of sales, according to a Bain & Cie study) are among the most popular categories. New generations of consumers are particularly keen on this new way of shopping. Gucci has launched ‘Vault’, its second-hand space in its shops, as have Galeries Lafayette with its ‘(Re)store’, Printemps and BHV with their second-hand stores, etc. Some brands, such as Hermès and Chanel, are making vintage purchases of considerable value.

The avant-garde

The idea of breaking codes, disrupting and surprising is an integral part of fashion’s DNA. Without avant-gardism, there is no history of fashion.

As others before them have done in the worlds of music, cinema (the new wave), catering (the new cuisine), the hotel industry and winegrowing, a new generation of designers is reinventing what the sector has achieved in a lighter, simpler, more spontaneous way, more in tune with the times.

This may be due to the fact that they are unfamiliar with the codes of this universe, and have no desire for constraints, which allows them to shape in their own way, like Jacquemus, Marine Serre or Ludovic de Saint-Sernin, a new stylistic instruction manual that renews the genre.
